At Splento we are a very peculiar bunch of people who are incredibly passionate about what we do. As a result, we have a particular work, career and life ethic – all described in detail here: https://www.splento.com/our-values
However, there is one more cultural value that we have, which deserves a separate post – it’s called Founder’s Mentality and it is an essential part of who we are.
The founder’s mentality is not about individual founders per se, but about the attitudes and behaviours that are common across our entire team.
These attitudes and behaviours can be summarized below as follows:
1) Frontline Obsession
- Relentless experimentation – continuous innovation and working with customers to devise new solutions, better service and better products.
- Frontline empowerment – the whole company is here to support the frontline customer-facing departments.
- Customer advocacy – being obsessed with making sure that someone is always looking out for our customers at all times.
2) Insurgency
- Bold mission – capture and celebrate every splendid moment.
- “Spikiness” – being world class at those things that really matter for customers and decidedly average at the rest.
- Limitless horizon – refuse to be defined by the industry in which we first competed.
3) Owner Mentality
- Strong cash focus – obsession with cash being generated, gross margins and the bottom line.
- Bias for action – declare war on the bureaucratic obstacles to action
- Aversion to bureaucracy – accepting the occasional chaos that may result as the cost of doing the right thing for the customer.
If you want to understand the concept of Founder’s Mentality in more detail, we would highly recommend the following book by Chris Zook and James Allen: The Founder’s Mentality: How to Overcome the Predictable Crises of Growth.
