Photography on demand company Splento is planning to launch in London, CEO Roman Grigoriev announced in 2015.
Speaking at London Tech Conference, Grigoriev says the company plans to roll out in the British capital at some point in the second quarter of 2015.
The London based company follows a similar model to Uber and other on-demand services, using contractors — rather than employees — to carry out its photography services. These contractors are free to pick their own hours and do it alongside their own photography jobs, but don’t have the same benefits regular employment offers.
Its model is focused on quick, professional, affordable photography — like other services that a customer needs fast and cheap. And there is a high demand for services like this one, Uber, Bizzby etc are your life proof examples.
According to its website, it has serviced more than 6,000 customers and numbers are growing rapidly.
Grigoriev cited Y-Combinator alumnus, Silicon Valley-based PrettyInstant as its main competitor. “Let’s get to 100 orders a day in London and maybe we can think about taking on other geographies”.
Looking forward, Grigoriev suggested Splento – the pioneer in photography on-demand space could one day expand into other photography-related areas. Our model is “defensible at scale,” he said. “The more scale you have, the more you can drive down the costs. Photography on-demand is our killer app. Once we have the scale and large enough customer base, we can easily expand into stock photography, photo-retouching on demand, photographer CRMs etc. ”
