Humans take trillions of photos and videos every year. A lot of these images make their way onto Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other social media platforms.
Each platform has its own pros and cons.
- TikTok is great for those who need a daily kick of short funny videos.
- Facebook is perfect for updates, news and keeping track of what’s happening with people you haven’t seen for a long time.
- Twitter is the default tool for micro-blogging.
- Instagram is a great medium for publishing visual content for your followers to interact with through likes, comments, and shares.
- WhatsApp, Viber & Telegram are the best for short text and audio message exchanges amongst friends and family.
However, humans are amazing at repurposing tools. We use slippers for both walking from the bedroom to the kitchen – and then swatting flies found in the kitchen! And we use a bit of alcohol to both smooth social interactions and disinfect wounds, sustained after overdoing it a bit with social interactions.
With the same ingenuity, we often misuse social media platforms.
99% of us use WhatsApp, Viber and Telegram to share photos of our children, pets, holiday trips, birthday parties and all the other things that matter with people who matter (family, friends and colleagues).
But just like in pre-Henry Ford days, when 1.7bn people thought that riding horses was totally fine for getting from A to B – and that there was no need for a car – we are perfectly content with misusing text messengers with their sub-par experience, simply because we don’t know that there is something 10x better!
Yes, billions of us use text messengers to share images. By design, those messengers weren’t meant to handle tons of photos and videos correctly:
- There is no easy way to search for any images;
- No way to sort them into albums;
- No way to print or edit photos;
- There is no timeline to easily comment and like individual posts;
- No way to seamlessly come back to a post or an entire set of photos from 10 years ago, to reminisce and shed the proverbial tear.
WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber, QQ and WeChat are not meant for that. They are for instant messaging, but what about all those photos and videos that are meant to be not only shared, but also kept for posterity?
And that’s what drove us to say: Basta!
The world needs a better way to visually interact with people who matter in our lives. If Instagram and WhatsApp can’t hook up and conceive a child that will solve this problem, we will!
So we took the best from all social media platforms and created Splento, which is the easiest way to share, store and interact with visual content of and from all the people that matter in your life.
It’s not about news and announcements, it’s not about influencers and clever bloggers – it’s purely about photos and videos that you want to keep and come back to in the years to come, from people that you love and care about the most: family, friends and colleagues.
In a sense – it’s an interactive cloud equivalent of your physical photo albums – with daily updates.
Of course, there is nothing new about this idea – these social media platform workarounds, misuse and sub-par experience have been around for years and many bright founders have tried to fix it, but they failed.
They failed for two main reasons:
a) Firstly, they were giving their users a binary choice – either they would charge you a monthly fee for using their awesome solutions and of course, that was never going to fly with 2bn people who for years have been using WhatsApp (and other messengers) for free.
Or they tried selling your data (like WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook do) to 3rd parties and showing you ads, but for users who have already sold their cookies to Mark Zuckerberg, there was no point in switching from one “cookie-selling” evil to another.
b) Secondly, these amazing apps couldn’t scale. How do you persuade a happy family that has been sharing photos of their kids, family trips and parties on WhatsApp for years to suddenly start using a different service, even if this service is 10x better! It’s a very big ask!
But we solved both!
Our app is not just the best in class when it comes to user experience, speed, privacy, quality of photos – it’s also free! And our go-to marketing strategy is so unorthodox, that we’ve been growing 50% week on week – overtaking even Facebook & WhatsApp in terms of user adoption in their early days!
If you do get to the second round of interviews with us – we’ll tell you how we solved both these issues.
And if you pass the third and fourth rounds of our selection process and become a part of our amazing team, you’ll get a chance not only to have fun, work with great people and earn good money, but actually leave a huge dent in the Universe!
Imagine, being one of the first 100 employees of a company that’s on its way to helping billions of people share and store their most precious memories!
However, amazing products don’t grow on trees. They are built by teams. By teams that have shared values and ambitions. You can (and should) read more about our values here, because that’s what defines us.
But if you are in a rush (although you shouldn’t be) in brief our values can be summed up in a few words:
Respect your colleagues, love your work, worship your customers and use our products!
If you don’t use our product, how can you tell your friends about it? Unless you are using app.splento.com regularly, don’t bother applying.
We do understand that not all of our applicants have children, or are on the “posting” end of the photo-sharing arrangements in your families. But all this means is that it’s just a one use case that doesn’t work for you.
However, you must still be attending parties, taking photos during trips with friends, organising events, and much more. Our solution is perfect for that too. There are plenty of use cases (you can read them all here).
We don’t know which one will appeal to you, but unless you start using app.splento.com on a regular basis – it’s worth repeating – don’t bother applying.
We are building something so special that we only want people of the same mindset to join our team.
You wouldn’t show up to an interview at Nike or Adidas HQ wearing Reebok?! Nor should you apply to work for Splento without falling in love with our product first.
So before you click “Submit Application” here, please make sure you’ve used our app.splento.com and have a list of suggestions on how we can improve it.
Thank you and we look forward to working with you!
